Getting Around Bali
Public transport is limited, so most travelers rely on ride-hailing apps, private drivers or scooters. See also: direct flights guide.
Ride-hailing: Gojek & Grab
Cheap and quick for short hops — about IDR 30,000–60,000 for a 15-minute ride. Some villages restrict app pickups.
Private Car with Driver
The most comfortable way to do day trips and transfers: IDR 600,000–800,000 (about USD 40–55) for 8–10 hours with an English-speaking driver.
Scooter Rental
The most freedom and the most risk. You need an International Driving Permit; rental costs IDR 75,000–100,000 a day. Always wear a helmet.
Metered Taxis
Bluebird taxis are reliable, with meters starting around IDR 7,000, but they are harder to find outside the tourist hubs.

Buy a tourist SIM from Telkomsel or XL at DPS: 15–25 GB for about IDR 150,000–250,000, valid 30 days. Bring your passport.
Are credit cards widely accepted?
At hotels, larger restaurants and established shops, yes. Cafés, markets and drivers want cash in rupiah, so carry both.
